Staying Warm While Waiting for Emergency Furnace Repair

Ice and snow are winter wonderlands from the haven of our cozy and warm homes in Calgary. When our furnaces stop working, the weather may change sugarplums’ visions into freezing-cold nightmares.

If you have already called a furnace repair company, do the following to stay warm as you wait for experts to fix the problem:

Layer Up

Skinny jeans won’t help to retain heat in your body. Unless you have fleece jeans, you won’t get warmth. If you feel cold and want to retain heat, it will be best to do multiple layers.

For instance, if you have thermals or leggings, you can put them on and then wear your pants. Also, wear a warm jacket and accessorize it with a scarf and a hat.

Have a Fireplace

Fireplaces are there for a good reason. If there are no risks from gas leaks in your boiler or furnace, starting a fireplace to keep you and your family home will be a great idea. Even a small blaze can suffice and help keep everyone and everything warm in the house.

Stay in One Room

Body heat often combines to heat a space. You may attest to this if you have been in a crowded space. Instead of letting your family stay in their rooms, close all the extra rooms in the house and let everyone congregate in the living room to stay warm.

Consider Using Space Heaters

The best way to keep yourself warm as you wait for a furnace repair technician is to use space heaters. But only use heaters in a room you have occupied currently. Avoid leaving heaters unattended for a long time without switching them off.

When plugging space heaters in, plug them directly into the wall outlet. Avoid using a power strip or an adapter to plug in your heater. You also need to only plug one heater into one outlet in the house, and if you want to plug in another one, ensure there is enough space between them.

Take Warm Drinks

A warm drink will keep your face and hands warm. It is also very comforting when you need a warm drink. Just ensure you opt for a drink that helps maintain warmth.

For instance, you can drink herbal teas and coffee. The caffeine found in coffee can help stimulate your body’s heat by increasing metabolism. Ginger tea also helps stimulate blood flow.

Exercise

A warm-up can warm you up quickly. Complete several jumping jacks, do a few squats, or jog around to generate heat and keep blood in your body system pumping.

Use Blankets

Find the warmest and coziest blankets in your home and wrap yourself in them. Sitting on one couch with the blankets to catch your favourite show will keep you busy while waiting for the furnace to get fixed.

The bottom line is that several ways can help keep you and your family warm while you wait for technicians to fix your heating system. If possible, assign specific tasks for every family member to make the wait fun with stories and games.
